Mark Vallance was working for the Peak National Park in 1977 and gave up this post to work full time on the development and marketing of 'Friends'. The original working name for this project was Wild Mountain Workshop. The name Wild Country was eventually chosen as being of greater appeal to the American market which was likely to produce a higher volume of sales.
