The club was founded in 1938. It was one of the clubs originally based in Nottingham and took over from the Nottingham Mountaineering Club which ceasedto exist during the Second World War. Polaris Mountaineering Club has a nationwide membership of sixty. |
| Mountain Heritage collections: |
Constitution, Minute Books, membership lists, newsletters, correspondence, maps and some expedition reports (1928-current). Also held are photographs, slides and a cine film of the 1959 Cho Oyu women's international expedition by Eileen Gregory. The Library collection (1789-1977) includes books donated by James Putrell (1869-1939) to the Nottingham Mountaineering Club. |
