Early Life

Born in 1948 to Tom and Betty Tasker, Joe was the second eldest of ten children – six were born in Hull; four were born in Port Clarence. Joe was part of a very supportive family who moved from Hull to Port Clarence when he was seven. He attended St Thomas’ Primary School, also serving as an altar boy at the church. After the family’s following move to Billingham, his first experience with climbing was when he joined the boy scouts and was taken to the Lake District and Cleveland Hills. Friends and family recall childhood antics as climbing up lamp posts and on the gates of Middlesbrough transporter bridge.
