Ice hammer, wooden handle with cord through hole drilled through the end. Metal head, stamped Stubai Made in Austria. Head has been modified to give a steeper angle on the pick.

Provenance:
Donated by Alasdair Rutherford. The hammer was bought from Centresport Leeds in 1972. Alasdair reports that it was not much use except for hammering pitons. He last used it on an ascent of the North Face of the Triolet in 1975; he stopped using it part way through the climb as a German party ahead of him fell but left their ice axe - he later returned the ice axe to the surviving member of the German party.
