Mick Burke Slide Collection Digitised

Following a most generous donation from John and Beth Bevan and Sara Burke, the slide collection compiled by Mick Burke has been digitised.  The contents cover a wide range of expeditions to South America and the Himalaya.  Sadly some images have suffered from being stored in a poor environment, but now that digitisation is complete, proper identification and cataloguing can commence as it is much easier to view such images digitally, thus also ensuring their long term preservation.

Here’s one example – a gritty looking Sir Chris, MHT Patron and former Chair and Trustee, at Camp V, Annapurna South Face, from where he was supporting Don Whillans and Dougal Haston up at Camp VI, 1970.

Tragically, Mick Burke, a noted climber, mountaineer and BBC Cameraman disappeared during the Mount Everest Expedition of 1975, whilst attempting a summit bid, but his legacy still remains.

Other gems include a base camp shot featuring Frost, Bonington, Estcourt, Whillans, Boysen and Haston whilst on expedition to Annapurna in 1970.

Other details will be circulated in due course as other images are identified.
