RODERICK (ROD) SMITH, was inspired by the 1953 ascent of Everest. then cut his mountain teeth in the Lakes and on gritstone. He has climbed extensively: in the Alps, Greenland, Svalbard, Japan, the Himalayas and the Karakoram. He is a collector of mountaineering books as well as being Editor of Obituaries for the Alpine club, of which he is a member. He is also a member of the Fell & Rock, and Yorkshire Ramblers Clubs.
