Work experience/volunteer opportunity

Following several expressions of interest, this role has now been filled. Please keep an eye on our website and social media pages for future volunteering roles and projects.

The Mountain Heritage Trust is seeking a volunteer to assist with catalogue data transfer to our new electronic collections management system.

This experience would suit someone who is interested in working with databases or a career in archives/heritage and is seeking practical experience of collections management systems. Full project details are below, for further information or to express an interest in this role please email enquiries@mountain-heritage.org.

Project name: Archive catalogue data transfer

Project details:

The Mountain Heritage Trust are currently working on transferring our collections information to the CALM collections management software. Prior to acquiring this software catalogues were created in Microsoft Word which is difficult to export directly into CALM.

We are therefore looking for a volunteer to assist with transferring and quality checking the data for two of our larger catalogued  collections: the Sir Chris Bonington Archive and the Joe Tasker Collection.

This is a great opportunity for someone considering a career in archives management to gain practical experience of using the catalogue module of CALM in a friendly and supportive environment.

This project will suit someone who:

Is interested in gaining practical experience of archival cataloguing software.

Is interested in gaining insight into the operations of a subject specialist repository.

Has good attention to detail.

Has good IT skills (training in use of the cataloguing software will be provided).

Has access to their own transport (the Mountain  Heritage Trust is located at the Blencathra Field Centre, CA12 4SG).

Time commitment: 5 days (may be taken as a block or one day per week depending on candidate preference)

Other information: The Mountain Heritage Trust is not able to offer travel expenses but tea, coffee and biscuits are available to all volunteers.

For more information contact:

enquiries@mountain-heritage.org

Closing date for interest is 13th March 2020.
