WWII ice axe auctioned for MHT

On Friday 6th June MHT Chair Julie Summers, Vice Chair Doug Scott and Patron Sir Chris Bonington gave an excellent Everest themed lecture with Leo Holding; hosted by Sir Melvyn Bragg at Hutton-in-the-Forest, Cumbria to help raise funds for The Northern Fells Group. MHT donated two items for auction at the event, splitting the proceeds between the two organisations.

Peter Habeler, Doug, Chris and Leo had kindly signed a WWII ice axe donated to MHT which raised £600 on the evening. The vintage axe was purchased by Berghaus for display in their reception area, so many thanks to Berghaus! An original water colour painting of Pillar Rock, also generously donated, raised £500. The two items were generously given by local people who support both charities and remarked how delighted they were with the outcome. The total achieved from the auction for MHT was £687.50 after reclaiming gift aid.
