I’m still to come down after a fantastic evening at Kendal Mountain Festival on Nov 18th to witness the Boardman Tasker Award for Mountain Literature ceremony. The sold out event at the Brewery Arts Centre was a fascinating and at times emotional roller coaster of a night, culminating in the announcement of not one but two winners for 2022.

As I’ve mentioned before, I do not myself have a background in mountaineering and climbing. Instead I’ve been employed to manage the MHT’s collections because of my experience as an archivist, and especially as a cataloguer. Over the next months and years, I’ll be introducing you to some of the archival collections we hold, and a selection of the stories that they contain.

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to be appointed as Collections Manager here at the Mountain Heritage Trust and I began work at the beginning of July. Since that time, and with the help of Trustees, Patrons and former members of staff, I’ve been gaining some basic familiarity with the collections (which include archives, artefacts and printed material), with the office and archive stores, and slowly but surely with the MHT’s systems as well.
